Philadelphia, PA – Republican City Council at Large candidate Matt Wolfe responded to Councilman Al Taubenberger’s recent attack on his son, through his spokesperson Frank Keel, as well as other lies the Taubenberger campaign is spreading about him. “Politics can get dirty, and I understand that, but attacking a candidate’s son is reprehensible. Al has kids. I bet he would find it offensive if other campaigns started targeting them for attacks.” Stated Wolfe.
Frank Keel, Taubenberger’s spokesman who is also the longtime spokesman of indicted IBEW Local 98 business manager John Dougherty, launched the attack against Wolfe’s son Saturday, October 26th, on Facebook. In the post, shown below, the Taubenberger campaign refers to Wolfe’s son as a “dumb-ass kid” and accuses him of running a Facebook page critical of Councilman Taubenberger’s support for sanctuary cities, through Resolution 160729, which Taubenberger sponsored and “commends Mayor Kenney’s support and affirmation of Philadelphia’s status as a sanctuary city.”
“I’ve stayed quiet as the Taubenberger campaign has attacked and spread lies about me, but I will not stay quiet when they attack my son. Al crossed the line, and I am calling on him to apologize. Maybe Al should focus on defending his own record – and his support for sanctuary cities – rather than attacking the family members of his opponents.” Wolfe continued.
Wolfe also took issue with the other attacks launched by Taubenberger through Keel, calling them outright lies. Specifically, in the same post, Keel states that Wolfe recently contacted IBEW Local 98 for a campaign contribution after being very critical of John Dougherty, the unions indicted business manager.
“Since I started my campaign, Taubenberger, through Keel, has repeatedly spread lies about me. He has attacked my appearance and my record. In the same post that my son was attacked, I was accused of calling IBEW Local 98 and asking for a campaign contribution. And a few months ago, the Taubenberger campaign accused me of accepting money from Local 98. This is simply not true, and Taubenberger knows it, so I call on Al to produce evidence to support his claim.”
Keel still remains an outspoken supporter of John Dougherty, despite the indictment, who Wolfe has criticized repeatedly during his campaign for City Council. “Frank Keel represents the worst in Philly politics. He has defended some of the most corrupt players in the City for over a decade. I guess if you need someone to go low, Keel is your guy.” Wolfe concluded.
