Philadelphia, PA – On the heels of President Donald Trump’s announcement of his candidacy for reelection in 2020, City Council at Large candidate Matt Wolfe endorsed the President and pledged his full support.
“President Trump has been good for America and good for Philadelphia. He deserves reelection,” said Wolfe. “The President has been trimming the size of the federal government, and is the first president to do so since Ronald Reagan. He is eliminating unnecessary and sometimes illegal regulations and executive orders put forth by the Obama Administration. The Trump tax cuts are the major driver in our expanding economy which has led to lower unemployment rates.”
President Trump announced his bid for reelection last Wednesday, and will face steep competition as Democrats line up to take him on in November.
“President Trump deserves another four years, plain and simple.” Wolfe continued “Despite what you hear from local Progressives, the President’s policies and initiatives have been great for Philadelphia. Opposing sanctuary cities and safe injection sites, supporting law enforcement, tax relief for the middle class and historically low unemployment for the African American community. And Trump appointed U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain has stepped up to protect us where DA Larry Krasner and Mayor Kenney has refused to do so. If City Hall would stop ‘resisting’ we could turn the federal government’s success into Philadelphia’s success.”
Polling shows that the President is extremely popular amongst those in the Republican party. Wolfe is running for City Council at Large in November along with four other Republicans for the two Council seats reserved for the minority party. Wolfe asked his fellow Republican City Council candidates to pledge to support Trump’s reelection campaign if elected to Council.
“I ask every other Republican candidate for City Council at Large to pledge that, if elected, they will fully support President Trump’s reelection campaign. It was upsetting in 2016 to see Republicans on Council fail to support – and in some instances even attack – the President. It is safe to say that a lot of Trump hate will be coming from City Hall in the 2020 election. Trump needs a unified Republican front in Philadelphia for his 2020 campaign, and Republicans on Council need to be at the forefront of that movement. This is important to many voters in Philadelphia, but should be a given for my fellow Republican candidates as the President is extremely popular among Republicans and has produced for our Democrat controlled city. Quite frankly, any Republican who refuses does not deserve to run as a Republican, but I’m optimistic that all of the Republican candidates will pledge to fully support the President in 2020.”
